Bowles' business, Carrington Bowles & Co., was established in the mid-18th century and became one of the leading map and print publishing firms in London during that time.

Bowles was involved in the production of various maps and atlases, including world maps, maps of European countries, and maps of the British Isles. His works often featured detailed cartographic information and were used for both practical navigation and decorative purposes. He was part of a long line of English map and print publishers and played a significant role in the dissemination of geographical knowledge and cartographic art during his era.
